A worker from the Union County Department of Public Works demolishes the service building in Mattano Park in Elizabeth as part of an on-going project to renovate and improve the park. The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced on August 12, 2008 the next phase of the improvement project is underway beginning with the demolition of the service building, originally constructed in 1982. Utilizing funding from the Union County Community Development Block Grant, the new structure will contain more modern, ADA compliant features. Additionally, the public will see the restoration and renovation of the park’s picnic areas, park benches and picnic grills. Installation of a new wheelchair accessible fitness court will be complete by the fall. |
